This article shows you the preparations necessary for us to set up the interface to Slack in your TimeTac account.
What the integration offers
This interface between TimeTac and Slack enables automatic synchronisation of all employees’ current status with Slack – including tasks, breaks, and absences. With our Slack integration, it’s also possible to use custom emojis for each status type.
Requirements
Before we begin the integration, please ensure the following requirements are met:
- A Slack workspace into which the integration will be embedded (must be an Enterprise plan)
- Administrator rights in the Slack workspace to install the app
- Access to the TimeTac API along with the required credentials
How the setup of the Slack interface works
Step 1: You create and configure a Slack app
- Log in to Slack and navigate to the Slack API website.
- Create a new app, give it a name, and select the workspace in which it will be used.
- Add the necessary permissions for the app, such as: users.profile:write, users:read, users:read.email
- Note down the OAuth access tokens and the App Client ID, as these will be needed for configuration.
Step 2: We configure TimeTac for you
- Contact us at support@timetac.com, and we will synchronize the Slack users with your TimeTac account.
- We will need your Slack access token, as described in step 1.
- We will personally discuss the configuration options with you.

Custom status emojis
Assign your own emojis
Note: These emojis must already be available in your Slack workspace.
Task emojis
Link certain tasks with matching emojis.
Anonymized task display
All status messages in Slack can be anonymized: when working on a task, it will simply show “Working” instead of the actual task name.
Exclusion of certain Slack users
Slack users can be excluded from TimeTac status updates. This means that these Slack users will not be linked to TimeTac and their status will not be synchronised.
Once your TimeTac account is synchronized with your Slack app, the status of your employees will automatically be displayed and updated in Slack.
